Jackson County Schools Teacher and Service Employee of the Year Announced
The Jackson County Board of Education recognized the 2018 Teacher of the Year recipients and the 2017 School Service Personnel Employees of the Year at its most recent Board Meeting. A reception was held in recognition of the honored employees prior to the meeting. Jackson County Schools participates in the West Virginia Teacher of the Year and Service Employee of the Year program each year.

Each school selects a representative for their school who becomes a candidate for the Jackson County Teacher of the Year. This year’s candidates include: Cottageville Elementary - Joan Hayman; Evans Elementary - Melissa Campbell; Fairplain Elementary - Angel Reed; Gilmore Elementary - Margaret Schiefer; Henry J. Kaiser Elementary - Cassie Radabaugh; Kenna Elementary - Krista Baker; Ravenswood Grade School - Chase Mills; Ripley Elementary - Mike Knopp; Ravenswood Middle School- Kayla Smith; Ripley Middle School - Tammy Spangler; Ravenswood High School- Laura Nelson; Ripley High School - Steve Lough

The Elementary Teacher of the Year is Angel Reed of Fairplain Elementary. Middle School Teacher of the Year is Tammy Spangler of Ripley Middle and Steve Lough of Ripley High is the High School Teacher of the Year.

The 2018 Jackson County Teacher of the Year, who will compete for West Virginia Teacher of the Year, is Tammy Spangler, 6th grade math teacher at Ripley Middle School. Mrs. Spangler has been named as one of the finalists for the state award.

The WV Board of Education recognizes outstanding education support personnel for their contributions to the schools and communities. The 2017 Jackson County Service Employees of the Year from each work location are: Kathy Hurt, Cottageville Elementary; Stacy Sturm, Evans Elementary; Dale Anderson, Fairplain Elementary; Pamela Cunningham, Gilmore Elementary; Pam Lewis, Henry J. Kaiser Elementary; Tamela Hunter, Kenna Elementary; Brenda Miller, Ravenswood Grade School; Rebecca Martin, Ripley Elementary; Tim Hafer, Ravenswood Middle; Betty Kiser, Ripley Middle; Melvin Rhodes, Ravenswood High; Ann Dowler, Ripley High; Stan Lewis, Transportation; John Casto, Maintenance; Rowena Mullins, County Office.
The Jackson County Schools Service Employee of the Year is Betty Kiser, Custodian, Ripley Middle School.
The Jackson County Board of Education commends all of these outstanding employees for their fine work and the efforts they make to serve the children of Jackson County Schools.
