GED Policy Changes Effective JULY 1, 2008

The Adult Basic Education Coordinator will be at the WorkForce Office on Thursdays and Fridays from 8:30 am - 4:30 pm weekly to meet with individuals that are interested in enrolling in the Adult program or taking the Official Practice Test.

**YOU MUST CALL 372-7306 FOR AN APPOINTMENT TO COMPLETE AN INTAKE FOR ENROLLMENT INTO CLASSES OR SCHEDULE TO TAKE THE OPT.

  • The Intake takes at least 3 hours.
    The OPT takes of 4.5 hours to complete. * This does not include test registration with GED Wizard. Therefore you will have to return to complete this process.
  • Therefore your prompt arrival is essential to complete the process. If you are late you will have to reschedule.
ATTENTION GED STUDENTS, BEGINNING THE WEEK OF JANUARY 12, 2009, THERE WILL NO LONGER BE CLASS ON WEDNESDAY NIGHTS AND FRIDAY MORNINGS with Kim Jones. THE NEW DATE AND TIMES WILL BE THURSDAY FROM 9 UNTIL NOON AND FROM 1 UNTIL 4 AS LISTED BELOW.

 

CLASSES

MONDAY:
• 5:00 – 8:00 - Teacher - Bill Lutz (Primary Focus on Monday nights is Science & Social Studies)

TUESDAY:
* 5:00 – 8:00 - Teacher - Bill Lutz (Primary Focus on Math, Study Skills, and Test Taking Tips)

THURSDAY:
* 9:00– 12:00 Noon, 1:00pm - 4:00pm- Teacher - Kim Jones (Primary Focus on Reading/Language Arts & Writing)


OTHER:
**The Coordinator is onsite on most Thursdays and Fridays but will be administering OPT testing, completing student intakes and teaching computer literacy classes. Students are welcome to come in and work with materials and utilize the labs to work with online sites, their KeyTrain and Plato programs. IT IS BEST to schedule an appointment with the coordinator so that your needs can be meet..

**Tests dates are always subject to change
  • You must pass the OPT - Official Practice test with a score of 410 on each test and a 450 overall
  • You must have an email address and Register online for the test date desired
  • Provide a photo ID prior to testing.

GETTING GED SCORES ON-LINE

Please follow the steps below to retrieve and print your GED test scores - remember it will probably take three or four days after your test date for scores to be available. Also, the Writing Test scores may not be available as quickly as the scores for other tests - this is because of the reading and scoring of the essays.

If you have problems, don't hesitate to call our office. Be sure that the e-mail address and password are the ones you used and provided when registering to take the GED Test!!

  1. Click: "Scores and Transcripts"
  2. Click: "Gedwizard"
  3. Enter: E-mail address and password
  4. Click: "Your Score Report"
  5. Click: "View Score Report"
  6. Click: Open (or Open and then Save)
  7. Print

ESL Resources:

  • Are you interested in studing online?? Would you be a good canidate for online study?
  • PLEASE NOTE: In order to be able to run the online GED study program, it is recommended that you have access to a computer that has DSL or Cable Internet connection. You may not be able to access this program on a computer that has dial-up Internet connection (depending on the connection speed.)
  • Please see the attached "Computer Checklist" to see if your computer meets the requirements needed to run the online program.
  • In order to enroll in the program, you will need to make an appointment with at local adult learning center for assessment and orientation.
  • Once you have completed this process and it is determined that you qualify for online learning, you will be given a Student Handbook that will give you instructions for logging on and using the online program. You will be assigned a Cyber-teacher who will work with you on setting you up a plan of study. The Cyber-teacher will also provide you with regular feedback, guidance, and encouragement as you do your online studies. All communication will be done via email.
  • Please review the "Student Expectations" document. This will help you understand what will be expected once you enroll in the online program. Please be sure to read this carefully. Remember - You will be required to spend at least 10 hours per week on your study program.
